Nithya Ramanathan received her B.S. from UC Berkelely in 1998 from the EE/CS department, and is currently a doctoral student in Computer Science at the Center for Embedded Networked Sensing at UCLA. Her research interests include the deployment of wireless sensing systems for environmental applications and the design of tools to improve the quality of data collected from these systems. In 2006 she deployed a wireless soil sensing system in a rice paddy in Bangladesh as part of an investigation into the source of high levels of arsenic in the local ground water.

In June, 2007 she was awarded the Switzer Environmental Fellowship for her contributions to environmental sensing.
